Shine at Nine is a stylish, modern hair, beauty & wellness experience located it the beautiful Cornish town of Bude. Our fully renovated premises consists of a large, open-plan hair salon on the ground floor and five individual treatment rooms upstairs. We're proud of the professional and personal service we provide to our clientele. SHINE aims to be Bude's premier one-stop-shop for you to keep your self looking and feeling fabulous.

Kathleen Mills

Salon Owner

Kathleen qualified in 1999, she started her career as a hairdresser working on cruise ships, combining a career she loved and travelling the world. In 2001 Kathleen returned to Cornwall and continued her career locally, building her professional reputation. In 2003 she began working for herself, hiring a chair in a local salon. By 2007, only four years later, Kathleen took over the running of the salon and created SHINE.

After 7 successful years of growth, Kathleen was able

to expand the busy salon and moved into the current premises. In 2017 SHINE made its move into the beauty and wellness industry. The space above the salon was fully renovated and converted into 5 modern, comfortable treatment rooms.

After a career spanning 20 years, Kathleen is a multi-skilled hairdresser and still very much enjoys her work. She now specialises in creative colouring and cutting

and prides herself on running a happy salon with a

great team.

"In my spare time I enjoy my fitness, running, yoga and travel! I am a huge animal lover and enjoy spending  time with my boys chilli and Ralph!."



Creative Director

Tammy trained alonside Kathleen and qualified in 1999, achieving both NVQ 2 & NVQ 3 in hairdressing.

Tammy has since developed her expertise in Australia, has experienced running her own salons here in the UK, as well gaining multiple Toni & Guy, Loreal and Wella workshop qualifications. Not to mention becoming a Mum sometime in between!

Graduate Stylist

Freya joined Shine after studying her Level 3 Women’s Hairdressing at Exeter College, receiving a Distinction in her course. She has since begun to build her portfolio, get to know the industry and make her mark within an ambitious team of women, joining the Shine team in 2022. Freya particularly enjoys learning new things and getting to meet and chat with all of our lovely clients.

Graduate Stylist

Irina has lived in Bude for 18 years with her husband, they have two boys. She has been hairdressing for three years and loves all aspects of her job!

"I love being outdoors and especially cold water swimming in the sea pool or the sea!"





Annie started her Level 2 NVQ at Exeter College in September. Annie is passionate about completing her training and becoming a hairdressing professional.

Susan   DeMuynck

Massage Therapist


Susan is an experienced massage therapist. She specialises in a wide range of treatment, including Abdominal Sacral Massage, Swedish Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hot Stones, Therapeutic Massage, Myofascial Release - as well being a Dementia Massage practitioner.

Eileen   Rendle

Spiritual Medium


Eileen is a gifted medium with a natural talent in communicating with spirit. She specialises in mediumship, readings, working on platform and healing (spiritual and reiki), alongside running regular development classes for like-minded people. A genuine, kind lady who loves her job.

Trish is running her tattoo and piercing studio here at Shine.

After moving to Cornwall from Scotland, Trish has spent 18 years developing her talent and passion for tattoo art.

Theraputic Counsellor


Carol qualified as an advanced BACP therapeutic counsellor in 2006 and has experience working both within the NHS and private setting.


She is now self-employed with a passion for promoting mental well-being. Specialist interests are anxiety and depression, self-esteem work and couples therapy
